Berida Naomi Puanani Kajioka, 76, passed away peacefully on June 29th, 2025, in Kennewick, Washington. Born on March 1, 1949, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Tatsuzo Kajioka and Berida “Lady” Kiko, Puanani was one of eight children and was lovingly known as Puanani by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Nito Dias; her second husband, James Hargrave Sr.; her long-time partner, Rex Turner; her siblings, Paul Kajioka, Hazel Kajioka Spencer, and David Borje; as well as her children Willy D. Hargrave, Jason Hargrave, Esther Dias Johnson, Michelle Hargrave, and James Hargrave Jr.; and her grandchildren, Naomi Hargrave and Isaiah Hargrave.
She is survived by her children: John Dias, Rose Dias, Kimberly Dias Morton, and Teresa Hargrave Salah; as well as her grandchildren: Jermaine Dias, Javis Dias, Marquita Dias, Loriann Dias, Leilani Howland (Johnson), Malia Hargrave, Regina Johnson, Immanuel Hargrave, Kayla Hargrave, Aniya Hargrave, Keaka Morton, Alexia Morton, and Okalani Morton. She was also the great-grandmother of Kymani Franca-Dias, Mala Dias, Emani Franca-Dias, Kai Dias, Ava Howland, Aoife Hargrave, Olivia Howland, Liam Howland, Tatum Howland, Rainier Roberts, and Baker Burks.
Puanani spent many years working at the South Seattle Auto Auction, where she was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and quiet strength. Her legendary chili recipe was beloved by all who had the privilege of tasting it.
In the later years of her life, Puanani moved to Eastern Washington, where she enjoyed her days with her long-time partner, Rex Turner.
A private service will be held in Hawaii at a later date. Her ashes will be returned home to Hawaii, where they will be scattered in the company of her family and the land she cherished deeply.
