Exa Thresia Emerson, known affectionately to family and friends as "Terry", passed away on August 6, 2026, at the age of 86. 

She was born on march 16, 1940 in Artesia, New Mexico. Terry was a dedicated professional who spent 33 years serving her community through her work for the State of Washington where she cared for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Throughout her career, she worked in Eastern State Hospital, Interlake School and Lakeland Village, eventually retiring as a residential services coordinator. Terry was also a passionate and influential leader in her union, Local 573, where she stayed highly active for many years. 

Above all, Terry loved her family her friends and her community. She was an avid reader and brought joy to life through her favorite pastimes, which included going on cruises, visiting casinos, and attending auctions. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be spread across Washington and Oregon. 

Terry was preceded in death by her father Edger Smith, her mother Minnie Orton; two of her children Debbie Makinson and Robert Gregory Makinson, as well as her two sisters, Luella Cummings and Sheila Waner. Her memory will be kept alive by her surviving son, Keith Rowley.

 She leaves behind a legacy of love through her eight grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Her shining light will always be missed.
